Whether you’re looking for a pre-matinee lunch, a double-show-day dinner or a location for your post-show discussion, there are a range of dining spots just a short distance from the Arts and Cultural Precinct.

Below you’ll find just some of the many options within an approximate 10-15 minute stroll from the Arts and Cultural Building. We recommend checking each venue’s website to confirm opening hours and booking details.

For most UMAC events, the Level 2 Foyer Bar will be open approximately 1 hour prior to the performance start time.

On Campus (<200m)

RESIDENCE at the Potter 
Located with the Potter Museum of Art, RESIDENCE at the Potter offers breakfast and lunch from 8am to 3pm, seven days a week.

Ida Bar
Open 9am to late on weekdays, Ida Bar is located next door the Arts and Cultural Building on Level 1 of Building 168. Closed on weekends & university holidays.

Thailander
At the base of the amphitheatre, Thailander offers quick and casual dining from Monday to Friday, 10am to 7pm.

Rice Workshop
Rice Workshop offers Japanese fast food including rich and noodle bowls, gyoza and ice-cream. Open Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm.

PappaRich
A modern version of the traditional Malaysian coffee shop, PappaRich serves fast-paced Malaysian favourites Monday to Friday, 10.30am to 6pm.

Zambrero
Grab freshly-prepared Mexican favourites with a focus on modern, superfood ingredients from Monday to Friday, 10am to 4pm.

Student Pavilion Food Court
Located next to the Arts and Cultural Building on Monash Road, the Student Pavillion Food Court offers a range of dining options from Monday to Friday, 10am to 6pm.

Campus Edge (200-500m)

Fico Carlton
Enjoy contemporary Italian-inspired dining at Fico, showcasing seasonal Victorian produce in the heart of Carlton, just moments from UMAC's theatres.

Standing Room Coffee
If you’re in need of a caffeine hit or a quick bite, Standing Room on Grattan St serves locally-roasted coffee and an array of sandwiches and pastries until 4pm. Standing Room is also located on campus at the Melbourne School of design, open Monday to Friday, 8am to 5pm.

Prince Alfred Carlton
For almost a century Prince Alfred, or P.A’s as the locals call it, has been a beacon for Carlton locals and University of Melbourne students. This much-loved pub and rooftop bar is open Monday to Sunday, 12pm until late.

The Clyde Hotel
Located on the corner of Cardigan & Elgin St, The Clyde is a historic Melbourne pub serving hearty meals across its lounge bar, beer garden and rooftop bar.

Kumo Kitchen
Kumo Kitchen offers a premium selection of freshly prepared sushi, sashimi, and innovative seasonal dishes from Wednesday to Saturday, and for lunch on Sundays. 

Lygon St and Carlton (500-750m)

Delmonte
Delmonte is an Italian wine room and restaurant located in the old King & Godfree building on the corner of Lygon and Faraday St.

Garfield Pizzeria
Garfield is a compact, walk-in pizzeria on Lygon Street in Carlton, built for quick dinners, late glasses of wine and everything in between.

Pidapipo
Grab a post-show scoop at the flagship Pidapipo, Melbourne’s home of authentic Italian gelato. 

Tiamo
A Lygon Street classic serving  traditional home-style Italian cooking for over 40 years.

DOC Pizza & Mozzarella Bar
Whether you’re after a quick coffee, a pizza or a pasta, D.O.C. have options for you across three locations in Carlton.

Grill'd Carlton
Grill’d Carlton serve up freshly made burgers, with vegetarian and vegan options, seven days a week on the corner of Lygon and Faraday St.
